The Kwara State House of Assembly has officially declared the seats of two members vacant following their switch from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The affected lawmakers are Saba Yisa Gideon, representing Edu Constituency, and Olusola Odetundun, representing Irepodun Constituency.
This decision came after Kwara APC State Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi wrote to Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi, citing constitutional breaches as the basis for their removal.
Fagbemi noted that because the APC remains unified without internal divisions, the lawmakers had no constitutional ground to abandon the party that sponsored their election.
During plenary, House Leader Abdulkadir Oba Magaji led the debate, stressing that the defection clearly violates Section 109 (1g) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.
Magaji highlighted that both politicians abandoned the ruling party while seeking re-election under the main opposition PDP.
Following supporting arguments from several lawmakers, Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi invoked the relevant constitutional provisions to officially remove both members from their seats.
