Technical Adviser of Plateau United, Gbenga Ogunbote, has warned his players not to get carried away following their emphatic victory over Ikorodu City in their Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL clash.
Plateau United delivered a commanding performance on Monday, thrashing Ikorodu City 4-1 at the Lafia City Stadium in a matchday 33 encounter.
Despite the convincing win, Ogunbote insists his side is still not safe from the relegation battle as the season approaches its final stretch.
The result lifted Plateau United to eighth position on the league table, putting them six points clear of the drop zone with five matches left to play.
“We have five games left in the season, as we stand we are not completely free from the drop zone,” Ogunbote said in a chat with the club’s media.
The experienced tactician stressed the importance of maintaining focus, warning that any slip-up at this stage could prove costly.
“I made the players understand that my definition of a good game is the beauty and success, which is that we can’t afford to toy with games,” he added.
“A loss or a draw will give us a temporary setback which we can’t afford to happen.”
Plateau United will now turn their attention to a crucial away fixture against Rivers United in Port Harcourt on Sunday, as they continue their push to secure their NPFL status.
