The Nigeria Premier Football League has sanctioned Bendel Insurance FC following multiple breaches of league regulations during their Matchday 32 clash against Plateau United FC on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
In an official statement, available to Ribsmedia, the league body condemned the Benin City club for failing to provide adequate and effective security at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, a lapse that reportedly allowed unauthorized individuals access to restricted areas during the fixture
The NPFL further cited incidents of unsporting behaviour by supporters of Bendel Insurance, noting that their actions were capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
Fans were also accused of harassing match officials, in violation of league rules on conduct and safety.
As a consequence, the club has been fined a total of ₦5 million.
This includes ₦2 million for inadequate security arrangements, ₦1 million for supporters’ misconduct, and ₦2 million for unlawfully detaining match officials for approximately 40 minutes after the game.
In addition, the club’s head coach, Kennedy Boboye, has been sanctioned for gross misconduct toward a match official.
The NPFL described his actions as a breach of the principles of fair play and discipline. He has been fined ₦2 million and handed a 17-match suspension.
The disciplinary measures also extend to the club’s home fixtures, with Bendel Insurance ordered to play their next three matches behind closed doors.
The NPFL reiterated its commitment to maintaining order, discipline, and professionalism across all match venues, warning that stricter sanctions will be imposed on clubs that fail to comply with league regulations.
