Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has candidly shared that her biggest regret is using her reality show prize money to support family members instead of investing it.
The reality star admitted that she was young and naive when she first emerged from the show, which ultimately led to the poor management of her newfound wealth.
Speaking during a recent livestream, Phyna laid the blame on her family members, criticizing them for failing to offer her sound financial guidance during that critical period.
She revealed that instead of encouraging her to secure her financial future through investments, they constantly demanded financial support from her.
Furthermore, she noted that her relatives quickly turned against her whenever she was unable to meet their frequent financial requests.
Reflecting on her choices, she explained: “The mistake I made was using my Big Brother Naija prize money to support family members instead of investing it. I thought I was helping my family members and sorting out their debts. I was spending generously on them. None of the older family members called me to give me financial advice on how to invest or manage the money well.”
“All of them were constantly demanding money from me for several stuff. I dug a lot of boreholes for family members. But the moment I started saying ‘No’ that was the beginning of my problem with family members. They complain and even call me out in the media whenever I can’t meet their demands. But now that the money has finished, I’m the only one facing the reality alone,” she lamented.
It will be recalled that Phyna walked away with a N100 million grand prize after winning the show in 2022, a package that consisted of N50 million in cash and another N50 million worth of prizes from sponsors.
