The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Kwara State Governorship Primary Election Committee, Musiliu Obanikoro, has assured party members and stakeholders of a free, fair, and transparent primary today.
The exercise is taking place after the APC leadership’s inability to secure a consensus arrangement forced a postponement of the Kwara governorship primary, which was originally scheduled to hold alongside other states on Thursday.
Following the delay, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka announced that the governorship primaries in Kwara and Bauchi states had been shifted to Friday, while specific State House of Assembly primaries in Zamfara were moved to Sunday, May 24.
Speaking on the logistics for the Kwara exercise, Obanikoro stated on Friday morning that electoral materials would be distributed before Juma’at prayers, with voting scheduled to commence simultaneously across all 16 local government areas immediately afterward.
Designated Local Government Election Officers appointed by the committee across the state are expected to converge to receive these materials and oversee the voting process in their respective areas.
“The committee is fully prepared to conduct the exercise in strict compliance with the directives of the APC National Headquarters and in accordance with established party guidelines,” Obanikoro said.
The committee chairman also disclosed that a strategic briefing had been held with governorship aspirants at the APC State Secretariat in Ilorin to ensure everyone was fully aligned on the electoral process.
While Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had previously announced Yahaya Seriki as his preferred choice, several aspirants reportedly withdrew from the race, though passionate supporters of Seriki, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Bashir Bolarinwa, and Femi Sanni still turned out in numbers at the Adewole Ward on Thursday.
