The National Sports Commission, NSC in partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has set up a dedicated Welfare Committee to oversee the Super Falcons during their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title defense in Morocco.
The strategic seven-member committee will be chaired by NFF Executive Board member Aisha Falode, with Ruth David serving as the team’s Secretary.
Other prominent sports administrators appointed to the committee include Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, Babagana Kalli, Emeka Iyama, Aderonke Tinuoye, and Tobechukwu Oluchi.
Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, stated that the Federal Government is deeply committed to ensuring the players enjoy a smooth campaign completely free from financial disputes or internal distractions.
”Mr President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR alongside the First lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, are both personally committed to seeing that the Falcons successfully defend their title in Morocco which is why this ad-hoc committee was put in place to further assist the NFF to ensure a seamless campaign for team,” declared Olopade.
The NSC boss emphasized that player comfort is a non-negotiable ingredient for tournament success, adding, ”Welfare is an unnegotiable key part of any team’s competition success, and with this committee, the players can be rest assured that the NSC and NFF are taking their welfare very seriously for the WAFCON.”
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, praised the move as a major milestone, noting it is the first time a standalone welfare body has been created for the women’s team ahead of a tournament.
”For us at the NFF, this shows the level of commitment the NSC is putting on Women’s football and it will only make the women’s game to continue to grow rapidly in the country,” Sanusi stated.
Clarifying the operational scope of the new body, Sanusi added, ”We believe this committee is not going to the WAFCON to take the responsibilities of anybody but to make sure we have a seamless campaign for the tournament.”
The Super Falcons, coached by Justine Madugu, have been drawn into Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia, and debutants Malawi, whom they will face in their opening match on July 28 in Casablanca.
