The Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Musa Abdullahi, has said that adequate corporate sponsorship of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL and financial grants for participating clubs are essential to achieving the National Sports Commission, NSC’s proposed ₦2 million monthly minimum salary for NPFL players.
Mallam Idris, who is seeking election as the North Central representative on the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF Executive Committee at the September elective congress, described the NSC’s salary policy as a commendable initiative. However, he stressed that its successful implementation depends on improved financial support for clubs through sponsorship and take-off grants.
According to him, NPFL club owners are already making significant efforts to pay their players competitively, but additional funding is needed to sustain the proposed salary structure.
“The NSC’s policy is a laudable initiative, and teams in the NPFL, especially club owners, are doing their best to pay their players handsomely. I urge the NSC to attract corporate sponsorship for the league and provide financial support to clubs to make the policy achievable,” he said.
Speaking on preparations for the new football season, the Kwara FA Chairman assured fans that security measures at the Kwara stadium would be significantly strengthened. He disclosed that spectators would enter and exit through designated gates, while stricter access control would prevent gate-jumping and other security breaches.
He expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for approving funds for the construction of a perimeter fence at the stadium, describing the project as a major step toward curbing crowd disturbances and ensuring a safer matchday environment.
On his ambition to secure a seat on the NFF Executive Committee, Mallam Idris noted that Kwara State has never occupied the North Central position in the federation’s history.
He explained that the seat is rotated among states in the zone and appealed to football stakeholders across the North Central to support his candidature and give Kwara the opportunity to represent the region at the highest level of Nigerian football administration.
