The Nigeria Premier Football League has tentatively fixed the weekend of August 27 to 29 for the kickoff of the highly anticipated 2026/27 season.
According to the approved football calendar, the campaign will run until May 28, 2027, incorporating fixtures for the President Federation Cup.
The upcoming season will usher in a new financial era after National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko announced a historic N1 billion prize money for the league champions.
This enhanced winner’s purse stands as the biggest in the history of Nigerian club football.
Organizers designed the broader financial reforms to improve the commercial value and competitiveness of the top flight while attracting greater investment.
The new campaign will feature four newly promoted clubs from the second-tier Nigeria National League.
Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, Ranchers Bees, and Doma United secured top-flight promotion to replace Wikki Tourists, Elkanemi Warriors, Remo Stars, and Bayelsa United.
The promoted sides will join defending champions Enugu Rangers, who recently secured their ninth league title at the end of the previous campaign.
