President Bola Tinubu has greenlit 27 major road projects worth over ₦3.9 trillion to fix Nigeria’s crumbling transport network.
Works Minister David Umahi shared the news on Monday right after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This massive infrastructure drive spreads across 15 states, including Lagos, Niger, Oyo, Kwara, and Cross River.
As part of the package, the government re-awarded a 409-kilometre highway project in Niger State to businessman Aliko Dangote for ₦1.8 trillion under a tax credit scheme.
Detailing the other major contracts, Umahi listed a ₦276 billion budget to dualise the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road, alongside several multi-billion naira allocations for critical routes in Oyo, Kwara, and Ebonyi states.
The Minister also broke down a long list of regional interventions, stating that the council approved everything from ₦83 billion for Adamawa’s Jimeta-Mayo Belwa Road to ₦15.7 billion for the Pacific Road linking Ikorodu in Lagos.
To keep the country’s busiest route moving, the council approved a private concession plan to run and maintain the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while ordering immediate concrete repairs on failed sections near Ibadan.
Travelers will also see some immediate relief, as the Minister announced that the first 118-kilometre stretch of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway is officially finished.
Reflecting on this milestone, Umahi confirmed, “The first 118 kilometres of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, valued at N137 billion, has been completed.”
The entire infrastructure push aims to safely connect rural farmers to urban markets and smoothly link states that share economic borders.
