Kwara Govt raises alarm over influx of unidentified commercial Motorcycle riders

The Kwara State Government has expressed concern over the increasing number of unidentified commercial motorcycle riders entering the state, warning that the trend could worsen security challenges in some communities.

Speaking at an emergency security stakeholders’ meeting in Ilorin on Thursday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Aliyu Korasabi, called on transport union leaders to support the ongoing residents’ registration exercise.

Korasabi said the registration of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators would provide security agencies with credible data to identify legitimate transport workers and expose criminals who may be disguising themselves as commercial riders.

He stressed that the growing influx of unidentified operators comes at a time when some communities are already facing security concerns, making it necessary for all stakeholders to act promptly.

The commissioner also emphasized that ensuring public safety is a shared responsibility, urging residents and transport unions to continue collaborating with the government to strengthen security across the state.

He commended the transport unions for their cooperation so far and encouraged them to sustain their support for initiatives aimed at improving security in Kwara State.
