Bandits have killed five forest guards in a fresh attack on Nuku village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attackers struck around 3 a.m. on Friday, firing sporadically and throwing the community into panic.
Residents said the assailants came in large numbers and operated for hours without resistance.
A source disclosed that the gunmen opened fire and quickly killed several people, including newly recruited forest guards, while destroying properties.
Motorcycles belonging to the guards were set ablaze, and patrol vehicles used by mobile police were also burnt.
The state police command is yet to issue an official statement, with spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi saying more details will be provided later.
