The Kano State Police Command has arrested 19 suspected drug dealers and recovered thousands of sachets, tablets and wraps of suspected illicit drugs during intelligence-led operations across the state in August 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the security situation and achievements of the command at the Police Headquarters, Bompai, Kano.
Bakori said the operations led to the recovery of 17,684 sachets of suspected illicit drugs and 614 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.
According to him, the substances recovered included 17,070 sachets of suspected Tramadol, 49 sachets, three cartons and 18 packs of suspected Diazepam, 90 sachets of suspected Pregabalin and 210 suspected Exol tablets.
The command also recovered quantities of suspected methamphetamine, popularly known as “Ice,” alongside other illicit substances.
One of the major seizures occurred on August 25, when operatives attached to the Rijiyar Zaki Police Division intercepted a Volkswagen Golf at Tudun Yola, Bajallabe Quarters, following intelligence from the Nigeria Unity and Stability Corps.
Police said the vehicle was carrying approximately 13,837 sachets of suspected Tramadol, allegedly transported from Abuja for distribution in Kano.
Further investigation led officers to Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, where they recovered five additional cartons of suspected Tramadol, three cartons of suspected Diazepam and other illicit drugs.
A female suspect was arrested in connection with the concealment of the substances, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects.
In a separate operation on August 14, officers attached to the Gezawa Division arrested seven suspects at Gunduwawa Village and recovered 614 wraps of suspected Cannabis sativa.
The Anti-Kidnapping Squad also arrested suspected drug peddlers at Rijiyar Lemo on August 19, recovering suspected Diazepam, Pregabalin and Exol tablets.
Similarly, officers from the Panshekara Division arrested 11 suspects on August 11 and recovered suspected Pregabalin, Diazepam, Exol tablets and a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp.
Bakori assured residents that the command would continue to intensify its operations against criminal activities, particularly the distribution of illicit drugs.
He urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police and other security agencies to help prevent crime and apprehend criminal elements.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the command had recorded a general reduction in crime across major parts of Kano Metropolis, attributing the development to sustained patrols, intelligence gathering, community engagement and targeted operations.
Overall, the Kano State Police Command said it arrested 244 suspects for various major offences between August 1 and 31, including suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, motor vehicle thieves, drug dealers and suspected thugs.
