Ucheibe rallies Super Falcons to bounce back after shock WAFCON defeat

Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe has insisted that Justine Madugu’s squad will throw everything into their upcoming clash against Zambia to salvage their group stage campaign.

The defensive midfielder offered her perspective shortly after Nigeria suffered a startling 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening WAFCON fixture on Tuesday night.

“I’m going to say it’s football. Nothing went wrong; both teams played very well, and that’s just football for you. You lose, you win, or you draw. But either way, you bounce back,” Ucheibe told reporter Victor Ademola.

Despite the setback, she maintained a strong focus on the team’s ultimate goals of reaching the global stage and retaining their continental crown.

“In the next game against Zambia, we will try our best to get through this phase so we can qualify for the World Cup and defend our title.”

The Malawian side stunned the 10-time African champions at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, tearing open the second half with a sensational three-goal burst from sisters Temwa and Tabita Chawinga.

While Rasheedat Ajibade converted a penalty and Uchenna Kanu added a late strike, the powerhouse Nigerians ran out of time to pull off a full recovery.

The loss leaves Nigeria uncharacteristically sitting third in Group C, eager to turn their fortunes around when they take on Zambia this Saturday.
