Burna Boy, Shakira's 'Dai Dai' becomes highest-charting World Cup song in history

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has achieved another major milestone as his collaborative World Cup anthem with Colombian superstar Shakira, ‘Dai Dai,’ has become the highest-charting World Cup song in history.

The song climbed 25 places this week to reach No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, overtaking Shakira and Freshlyground’s iconic ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’, which was released for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

‘Dai Dai’ also reached No. 3 on the Canadian Hot 100 this week and is currently in contention for the No. 1 spot on the UK Official Singles Chart.

In a related development, Billboard has discontinued the World Digital Song Sales chart, with its final edition published on June 27, 2026.

The chart had ranked some of the most commercially successful songs from regions including Nigeria, Asia, the Caribbean, South Africa, and other international markets.
Over the years, Nigerian stars such as Wizkid, Mr Eazi, and Rema have all topped the World Digital Song Sales chart.
