The Confederation of African Football, CAF) has clarified that the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON will feature 24 national teams.
CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe made the clarification during a press conference on Wednesday, dismissing media reports suggesting that the tournament would have a different number of participating teams.
According to CAF, reports claiming otherwise are false, reaffirming that the competition will retain its current 24-team format.
The AFCON 2027 tournament will be held in June and July 2027, while the qualification series is scheduled to begin in September/October 2026
