Students of the University of Jos on Tuesday staged a massive protest over a prolonged power outage in their campus hostels.
The angry demonstrators revealed that they have been forced to live without electricity for over a week.
According to the students, the total lack of basic amenities has completely disrupted their studies and ruined their overall well-being.
They expressed deep frustration that university authorities have ignored their repeated complaints since the start of the current academic session.
Speaking during the demonstration, a student named Felix Bala lamented, “Since our resumption, we have not had power in our hostels.”
He further demanded immediate action from the management, stating, “We were told that power was cut off; we demand the immediate restoration of electricity.”
Bala explained that the blackout also cut off their water supply because the school relies on electricity to power the water pumping machines.
As a result, students spent days without water, leaving hostel toilets and other sanitary facilities completely unclean.
While some off-campus students pleaded with the protesters to end the campus blockade, their appeals were entirely unsuccessful.
With the student body warning that the protest will continue until power is restored, top university officials and the Student Union Government president could not be reached for comment.
