From unanswered DM to sold-out area: AY shares Asake's inspiring rise to global stardom

Veteran Nigerian comedian and popular actor, Ayodeji Makun, widely known as AY, has revealed a forgotten 2019 direct message from Afrobeats star Asake seeking career help years before his international breakthrough.

AY shared the surprising revelation in an Instagram video uploaded on Monday after attending Asake’s sold-out “In God We Trust” tour performance at the massive Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Reflecting on the musician’s remarkable journey, the popular entertainer recalled discovering that the now-famous artist had quietly messaged him on social media half a decade ago.

“I remember when this boy sent me a message in my DM on Instagram. I didn’t even get to see this message on time. This was years ago, sometime during 2019,” AY revealed.

Displaying a screenshot of the original exchange in the video, the message showed Asake introducing himself by his birth name, Ololade, while making a humble plea for promotional support.

“Good Evening sir. I’m OLOLADE. How are you doing sir? I’m here for help, KING AY. I just drop a record titled – African Something. You vibing to the song is a lot to my career,” the message read.

In his heartfelt plea, Asake continued, “KING AY, Help a son sir. May God bless you and your family. I love you KING AY.”

Clarifying his intentions behind sharing the old message, AY emphasized that he was not attempting to claim any credit for the chart-topping singer’s meteoric rise to global stardom.

“I’m not saying all of this to take any credit. That glory belongs to God and his talent and of course the hard work that is put into all of this,” the comedian clarified.

Watching the superstar command a massive arena audience in Texas served as a profound reminder of how rapidly life can change through relentless persistence.

“The truth is that the person asking to be seen today may become the person the whole world will celebrate tomorrow. So be good to people, respect their dreams, never look down on anyone because you simply cannot tell what tomorrow brings,” AY advised his followers.

The comedian added that Asake’s team ushered him backstage after the show, where the humble hitmaker warmly greeted him, prompting AY to conclude: “Ah Asake, you were simply phenomenal.”
