The Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election concluded on Friday following a 24-hour delay caused by technical hitches.
Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, emerged as the party’s official flag bearer for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Danladi secured a landslide victory after polling 94,990 votes to defeat 14 other aspirants in the keenly contested primary held across the state.
His closest challengers, Yahaya Seriki and Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, suffered heavy defeats, capturing just 41,700 and 22,118 votes respectively.
The Speaker’s victory followed a major pre-election shakeup where Governor Abdulrazaq reversed his endorsement of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki to back Danladi.
Chairman of the State Primary Election Committee, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, officially announced the Kwara North politician as the winner.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, had previously cleared the path for the Friday vote after rescheduling the exercise from Thursday.
This is a welcome development.
