ASUU declares indefinite strike at Nasarawa state university

The Nasarawa State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, has declared a comprehensive and indefinite strike over the alleged non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and other unresolved issues affecting academic staff.

The Chairperson of the ASUU NSUK Branch, Zubairu Loko, announced the decision in a statement issued after the union’s branch meeting on Monday.

According to the union, the industrial action followed the failure of relevant authorities to satisfactorily implement the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement and address outstanding local issues despite several rounds of dialogue and engagement.

The statement read in part: “The decision was taken at the Branch Congress held today following the continued non-implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement and other unresolved local issues affecting academic staff of the University.

“The Branch had exhausted several avenues of dialogue and engagement with the relevant authorities without securing satisfactory implementation of the agreements and resolution of the outstanding issues.”

ASUU disclosed that it had sought and obtained the approval of its National Executive Council NEC, before commencing the strike.

The union stressed that agreements freely reached between parties must be respected, implemented and honoured, insisting that the failure to fulfil the agreements left it with no option but to embark on the industrial action.
