Abia State University, ABSU has immediately suspended Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze from the Department of Economics within its Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences.
The disciplinary action follows a series of controversial posts shared on the academic’s personal Facebook page regarding faculty compensation.
In his social media updates, Professor Nwaeze asserted that a portion of professors at the university earn a monthly salary below ₦400,000.
He went further to state that commercial tricycle drivers, popularly Keke riders frequently generate a higher total income than ABSU professors.
Responding to the viral remarks, the university’s management declared that the lecturer’s public statements were harmful to the institution’s reputation and overarching interests.
The official suspension notice was formally issued by Chijioke Nwogu, the Deputy Registrar and Public Relations Officer for the university.
The management confirmed that a special investigative panel has now been set up to review the matter thoroughly.
