Federal Government announces payment of 8 months Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance to tertiary institutions

The Federal Government has fully disbursed the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance to academic staff across all federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, covering January to August 2026.

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa officially announced the major payout on Wednesday immediately following the inauguration of the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.

Designed to enhance educational standards, CATA provides academic personnel with essential funds to procure crucial teaching supplies, research equipment, and daily instruction materials.

Dr. Alausa emphasized that fulfilling this payout directly aligns with the terms of the 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities agreement, proving the administration’s intent to uphold its promises.

“The Office of the Minister of Education is happy to announce that the full CATA payment has now been released by the Federal Government from January to August 2026 to all universities, all polytechnics and colleges of education,” Alausa stated.

He added, “All these institutions should have received notification to start paying CATA to all academic staff.”

Providing further relief to campus workers, the minister confirmed that financial disbursements for non-academic staff members are currently being processed and should clear within weeks.

“And also, the payment to non-academic staff, we’re hoping that these funds will be made available, hopefully, in the next few weeks,” he said.

Dr. Alausa framed the financial release as a direct reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s core agenda to prioritize worker welfare, rebuild trust, and upgrade infrastructure across basic and postgraduate institutions.

“This is a President that believes so much in education. He has delivered beyond his promises to ensure that every single child in this country gets the highest quality of education comparable to anywhere in the world,” Alausa concluded.
