11 Killed, dozens of homes burnt as fresh communal clash rocks Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the death of 11 residents following a renewed clash in Udege Development Area of Nasarawa State.

The violence erupted between the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in the early hours of Friday over lingering disagreements.

In a statement issued in Lafia on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said the situation prompted urgent intervention by the police leadership.

He explained that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the affected communities on April 3, 2026, to restore calm and assess the damage.

According to Nansel, the CP expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, which claimed 11 lives and led to the destruction of several homes.

He added that the police boss commiserated with bereaved families and assured residents of the command’s commitment to justice.

“The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the same day, involved hoodlums suspected to have carried out a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen. In the course of the attack, 11 persons were killed, while about 50 houses were burnt in Akyawa and two houses in Udege Kasa,” he said.

“In response, CP Shetima has ordered an intensive manhunt for all perpetrators of the heinous act,” Nansel added, noting that security has been reinforced with police, military, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel to restore lasting peace.
