The road to the 2027 presidential election has officially cleared for takeoff. James Faleke, a key member of the House of Representatives, stepped up on Tuesday to obtain the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The handover took place in Abuja, where the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, formally presented the documents. This high-profile ceremony effectively marks the commencement of the ruling party’s nomination process for the next general cycle.
Faleke, who serves as the coordinator for the Tinubu Support Groups, didn’t just pick up paperwork; he sent a massive signal. By acting as the President’s proxy, he has solidified the administration’s intent to keep the momentum going well into the future.
The price tag for this political entry? A cool N100 million. Paying the fee is widely viewed as the first formal handshake in Tinubu’s bid for a second term, silencing any lingering questions about his 2027 intentions.
While the politicians gear up, the electoral umpires are also setting the stage. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already circled Saturday, January 16, 2027, on the calendar for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
Parties aren’t being left to guess on the timing, either. INEC has mandated that all political primaries, including any internal legal battles that follow, must be wrapped up between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
The home stretch is equally defined: official campaigning for the top seats in the land will kick off on August 19, 2026. With the dates set and the forms in hand, the race for Nigeria’s future is officially back in session.
