UPDATE ON THE KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC PORTAL ACCESS FEE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT ‎ ‎Dear Fellow Students, ‎ ‎Recall that on Monday, 14th September 2026, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, officially unveiled its new student portal following the migration from the previous portal system. The development generated considerable interest and, understandably, concerns from students regarding the new platform and the access portal fee of ₦6,050. ‎ ‎In the midst of the concerns, the Student Union Government (SUG), acting on the information available to it at the time, issued an advice urging students to exercise caution regarding information circulating about the new portal pending further clarification. The position subsequently generated further discussion among students. The Rector, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime and other Principal Officers in their usual fatherly magnanimity invited the Union for direct engagement, particularly for a fuller understanding of the development. ‎ ‎Following this engagement, the SUG obtained further explanations on the new portal, and the arrangements put in place for its efficient operation and sustainability. The engagement also provided the Union with a clearer understanding of the portal service charge and the technical arrangements supporting the platform. ‎ ‎We have consequently established that the ₦6,050 payment is a legitimate portal service charge payable by students per academic session. Importantly, the payment is not a revenue charge for the Polytechnic itself; rather, it goes towards the services of the technical service providers responsible for managing the portal, maintaining the system and continually updating and administering students’ data and related online services. ‎ ‎We have also verified that similar portal service charges are obtainable in several tertiary institutions, including Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba; Kogi State University, Kabba; College of Nursing Sciences, Obangede, Kogi State; Ekiti State University; Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State; and Kaduna Polytechnic (KADPOLY), among others. ‎ ‎These verifiable instances show that the introduction of the charge at Kogi State Polytechnic following the launch of the new portal was not an isolated decision, but a normal practice obtainable in other institutions operating digitally, particularly for portal maintenance. ‎ ‎In view of the information obtained through our engagement with Management, we hereby modify our earlier position of 14th September 2026 and clarify that the ₦6,050 payment is a legitimate portal service charge connected to the continuous management of the new student portal. ‎ ‎We therefore encourage all students to follow the officially designated payment procedures and rely on verified information from the Polytechnic and the Students Union Government. ‎ ‎The SUG appreciates the openness of the Management, under the leadership of the Rector, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime, in engaging with the Union and providing the necessary explanations on this matter. We reaffirm our support for the Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime-led Management in its efforts to strengthen the Polytechnic’s digital systems, improve service delivery and advance initiatives that will positively impact students and the institution as a whole. ‎ ‎To our dear students, the SUG remains your voice and is committed to ensuring that students are properly informed, responsibly represented and adequately carried along on developments affecting our academic and administrative activities. ‎ ‎Signed: ‎Comr. Abdulmalik Abdulwahab ‎President, Student Union Government (SUG) ‎Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja.
