The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has arrested six women suspected of engaging in commercial sex work during an operation in Gadaka, Fika Local Government Area of the state.
The operation was conducted recently in the Abuja area of Gadaka by operatives of the commission’s Fika LGA command.
The Head of Administration of the commission in Fika LGA, Malam Musa Abari Talba, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen.
According to Talba, the operation also targeted drinking establishments suspected of selling and processing alcoholic drinks.
He said the exercise was not limited to arrests, as Hisbah officials also embarked on sensitisation campaigns aimed at educating residents on activities considered contrary to religious and moral values.
Talba said the officials preached to residents and urged them to desist from acts they considered harmful to the moral fabric of the community while encouraging compliance with the law.
He explained that the operation formed part of the commission’s mandate to promote peace, discipline and good moral conduct among residents of Yobe State.
He added that similar activities would continue as part of efforts to maintain peace and uphold acceptable standards of conduct across communities in the state.
