The pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development on Friday.
Onanuga announced the release of the victims by their abductors in a post on his verified X handle.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” he wrote.
Details surrounding their release, including whether any ransom was paid or the circumstances leading to their freedom, remain undisclosed.
Armed men abducted the victims on May 15, 2026, during attacks on three schools in the Esiele and Yawota communities.
The attackers targeted Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
The gunmen took at least 39 pupils and seven teachers, including a school principal, during the raids.
One teacher, Joel Adesiyan, was killed while attempting to escape the initial attack.
Another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was later killed while being held captive in the kidnappers’ den.
