Nigeria Police extradite fugitive Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi to UK over murder, drug charges

The Nigeria Police Force has extradited Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi to the United Kingdom to face charges of murder and drug trafficking.

The extradition was carried out through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja following a formal request by UK authorities in September 2024.

A police statement signed by Anthony Okon Placid said the suspect was wanted over the alleged murder of Joshua Boadu in June 2018 before fleeing to Nigeria.

He was also accused of supplying crack cocaine in the UK between October 2017 and March 2018.

The suspect was arrested in January 2025, and a Federal High Court in Lagos later approved his extradition in February 2026 in line with Nigerian law.

He was handed over to UK law enforcement officials on April 14, 2026, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, as the police reaffirmed their commitment to international cooperation and denying fugitives safe haven.
